The Greens and Lee Rhiannon - STAND UP FOR YOUR RIGHTS

Any outdoorsman, fisherman or sporting shooter may lose rights to do so if Lee rhiannon and the Greens are voted to the state federal senate in the upcoming election. This could be distratrous for the outdoorsman that enjoy hunting, fishing and any other outdoor activity we have grown up to love. As Australias we value our rights and contributions to the outdoors and this is the life blood of EVERY australian.

Lee Rhiannon is known within in the Greens to hate guns and sporting firearms and believes that nobody should possess guns for any reason. There has been constant heavy opposition to every firearm amedment bill that the Shooters Party has ever put forward.

Anyone with and ounce of common sense can understand criminals dont use registered firearms to commit crimes, obviously the Greens fail to have any type of rationale or general common sense.
Don't let the GREENS take away your rights to enjoy the things that make us Australian. Appose Lee Rhiannon and her win at all cost world domination attiude at the next election.... You may just save your rights for your children to enjoy in the future!

Oven Baked Duck

There is nothing like the taste of fresh baked duck and the sweet aroma that wafts through the whole house. This is the first time that I have baked duck and it a was semi successful effort.

Duck is a game animal and has a very thick fatty skin which is great for us Paleo consumers. In this recipe I used an oven bag to make sure that all the juices were kept in and also to stop from making any mess inside the oven.I have had peking duck once or twice in my lifetime from an Asian restaurant but generally is was mostly bones and not much meat in the dish to my disappointment. So I thought what better way than to bake and eat my own whole duck.

The duck came out a little dry and next time I might throw it in a slow cooker and let it tenderize until it just falls off the bone. YUM!

INGREDIENTS:
  • 1 Duck
  • Butter
  • Onion
  • Salt and Pepper
  • Olive Oil
Brush the duck with the butter then throw the remaining ingredients into the bag and bake for 60 minutes. I don't like to give specific oven temperatures because everyone's oven is different and I don't want to ruin anyone's duck.

Service with steamed asparagus and enjoy.

Hunting our own food

The question I wanted to ask today is if we are going to live a primal lifestyle then naturally we have to either hunt or chase down our own food sources. Now I am not asking people to grab a gun and run down the street shooting domesticated animals!

Thousands of years ago when people hunted the land nobody had a problem with it because there was no other way to eat. If you didn't hunt food you were dead and would be picked off by the first predator.

These days with PETA(people against ethical treatment of animals) and all the animal welfare lobbyist groups it has become increasingly harder to hunt, especially here in Australia were guns ownership is under tight scrutiny from the government as well as the left wing greenie groups. These groups want animals to be treated on the same level as humans. I will say it now and I have said it before "humans are the premiere race and if it comes down to saving an animals life or a human life the human life takes priority" and this is the way it has to be.

Most of these people that are making all the attacks on hunters and gun owners  eat meat. So the biggest question is where do they get there meat from? The answer is a grocery store! Yet they have little problem consuming such products with out a a blink of an eye without knowing where the were raised and under what conditions? It really is just one hypocritical view after another.

Now for the people interested in eating a range of game animals these include:
  • Ducks
  • Kangaroo
  • Deer
  • Wild pig
  • Pheasant
  • Dove
  • Partridge
  • Rabbit
I know it is not practical for everyone to hunt there own game food but there are some people that go away for a hunting weekend and cull enough food to last them for 6 months depending on the size of the animals culled. They then freeze all the food and take it out of the freezer as needed.

Avoiding foods that you have no idea of what origin or even country the foods came from is a great health move and what better way than to hunt and remove feral animals from damaging either farmers crops or killing other indigenous native animals. Some countries have very poor food handling and safety regulations that have even been known to cause death from poisoning because of rancid or decomposed meats that were not handled or stored under proper food safety standards.

I will be placing some game recipes on the blog in the coming months when i get time to go out hunting with some of my friends who are currently getting there firearms licenses.

If you have any questions or comments please feel free to comment and let me know your thoughts on hunting your own food? Also comment on any rifle/shotgun combination's that you use to hunt with. I am always interested in hearing peoples hunting stories.

Hunting is at least knowing where the food you eat coming from which with no hidden chemicals or ingredients.

Here are some photos of me dove hunting in in Waco Texas in September 2010 and I must say its the most fun hunting that I have had in a long time. Aerial shotgun hunting is by far my most favorite type of hunting.

Some Primal Foods - Shopping Lists

I wanted to talk about today about Primal food items that you might want to purchase to get you started on the Primal lifestyle and nutrition plan.

The picture on the left looks like I have purchased alot of carb driven foods such as fruit. Remeber that I don't eat fruit all the time. I might eat 2 or 3 pieces one day, then not have any for 4-5 days sometimes even up to 2 weeks without any fruit.

During the caveman paleo generation fruit may have only been available seasonally which took alot of effort to gather providing very little calorie density. I would imagine it would not be worthwhile to gather a handful of berries which could takes hours to forige only to be worth 100 calories.

The paleo humans would have used there energy to hunt wild animals which provides not only protein but also valuable saturated fats for which could used as energy to either store energy for future use "OR" use fat as a dietary fuel source.

My shopping list generally consists of the below items. Some may not be a PRIMAL as others but again keeping your carb intake below 100 grams per day is the ultimate goal while avoiding packaged items.

SHOPPING LIST:
  • Peaches, strawberrys, blueberries, rasberries.... Yum
  • lean and fatty meats such as ground mince beef, pork, chicken and other types of fowl
  • Salmon & tuna. Either fresh or canned works well (dont forget to add some fat)
  • Salad bags full of leafy greens to make salads with
  • eggs (yes eat the yolk)
  • Cheese (if you can tolerate diary)
  • Nuts and seeds
  • Avocado
  • Sour cream (if tolerated)
  • Heavy cream (full fat)
  • Chicken such as whole chickens, breast or thigh (I buy bonesless thigh fillets)
  • Twiggy meat sticks or beef jerky (avoid overly processed jerky with additives)
  • Deli meat cuts such as turkey and ham
These are just some of the foods that I buy to help me stay primal. I love eating a chicken thigh fillet salad for dinner made up with my own salad dressing. Its making my mouth water thinking about it.

So until next time start being primal and take it to the next level. Your health is worth it!

Well to start off my blog I thought I would add a recipe to get my Urban Caveman blog kicked off.

I got this recipe and changed it a little from the original creator Son of Grok. Son of Grok(SOG) has a brilliant website about primal eating and how eating a carb restricted paleo diet helped him achieve weight loss and vibrant health. He also has a mean six pack to boot so check him out.

Ingredients:
  • 2lbs/1kg of ground beef. (chicken or pork works well to)
  • 3x Capsicum(bell peppers) or as many as you wish to make
  • 1x onion red or brown
  • Fresh crushed garlic
  • 2 tbsp of hot sauce(optional)
  • Half of 1 avocado
  • Salt and pepper to taste
Preperation:

  • Brown onion in fry pan

  • Add  ground mince beef to fry pan

  • Add salt or pepper to browned mince

  • Cut top of capsicum and remove seeds and white flesh

  • Once beef has browned spoon the filling into the fresh capsicums
